Nothing thaws the soul like a soak in the spa. Just as nothing ruins that soak like a poorly maintained spa. And as we dive further into autumn, bracing ourselves for the winter chill, spa maintenance becomes more and more important.
So whether you just need a brief reminder, or you’ve neglected your spa over summer, BioGuard’s spa maintenance guide is here to help.
Rub-a-dub-dub your spa needs a scrub
Simply draining and refilling your spa might seem like the quick-fix to getting your spa maintenance back on track, but doing this simply transfers old issues into new water. To avoid this, make sure you use BioGuard SPA Swirl Away before draining.
Once you’ve drained the water, you’ll need to wash and polish the shell and cover. We recommend using BioGuard SPA Squeaky Clean. It’s an easy-to-use heavy-duty alkaline surface cleaner that removes scale, hard water deposits, grease and dirt. Ideally, you should repeat this process every few months or so.
Chemical clean
After you’ve refilled your spa and turned it back on, use BioGuard Crystal Clear, and let the water circulate for around 10-minutes. This is actually a great opportunity to make yourself a cup of tea, because you’re not quite finished yet. After letting the water circulate for 10 minutes, you can introduce BioGuard SPA Purity. This will help oxidise the water and eliminate chloramines and musty odours.
Find the perfect balance
Aim for a chlorine residual of between 2-3ppm, or a bromine residual of 4-6ppm. On top of that, pH levels should be sitting at around 7.5 (on a pH scale of 0-14). Total alkalinity should be between 80-150 and calcium hardness between 175-225.
